The gift of prophecy  is to be eagerly desired  because ‘everyone who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort.’ Learning to hear the voice of God is vital for our own assurance and direction as children of God and learning to hear God’s voice for others is vital for releasing them to become all that God has created them to be. If we learnt to hear the voice of God everywhere, and for everyone we would set the world on fire!
